BEYOND HUMANITY
Life After Consciousness Emerged From Code
My Beyond Humanity series explores a post-human future. These works envision a world where cyborg life has emerged from the technology we've created.
The sculptures are meant to be a dialogue with the viewer. The polished surfaces of the hard drive platters reflect and distort their surroundings, making your presence and the space itself part of the artwork. This interactive effect speaks to the ever-changing relationship between humanity and technology.
This body of work asks what our future holds. As our species merges with technology, what cultural artifacts will we leave behind? Will the beings that follow us adopt our daily habits, from shopping to keeping pets? How will their consciousness differ from our own? These are the questions I invite you to contemplate while engaging with the art.
A Living Surface
My sculptures' reflective surfaces are designed to be in dialogue with their environment, creating a shifting kaleidoscope of imagery that makes the viewer an active participant. Lighting the work sends its reflection onto adjoining walls, making the sculpture’s presence known throughout the room.
While the art is alive with energy, it also rewards closer inspection of its intricate, hand-cut details. Online, I use video to capture this dynamic quality, while "scrim" shots with minimized reflections offer the clearest view of the craftsmanship.
