BEYOND HUMANITY
What came after us is standing in front of you.
Life After Consciousness Emerged From Code
The Beyond Humanity series imagines a post-human world — one where cyborg life has emerged from the technology we built and left behind.
These sculptures are meant to start a conversation. The polished hard drive platter surfaces reflect and distort the space around them, making your presence — and the room itself — part of the work. That interactive quality speaks to the shifting relationship between humanity and the technology we've created.
The series asks uncomfortable questions. As we merge with technology, what will we carry forward? Will the beings that follow us inherit our habits — shopping, keeping pets, sitting in stillness? How will their inner life differ from ours? These are the questions I'm sitting with, and the ones I hope you'll take away.
A Living Surface
The reflective surfaces of these sculptures are in constant dialogue with their environment. Lighting the work casts its reflection across adjoining walls, making the piece felt throughout the room — not just where it hangs.
The art rewards both distance and proximity. From across a room it shifts and moves; up close, the intricate hand-cut fretwork reveals itself. Online, the videos capture the dynamic quality of the work, while the scrim shots offer the clearest view of the surface and craftsmanship.
