Underneath, We Are One

Underneath, We Are One explores the dialogue between two opposites living within the same frame.

The profile on the left is built entirely from polygons — not a single curved line anywhere. Its counterpart on the right uses only curves and sections of circles — not a single straight line. Their surfaces are as different as two geometric languages can be.

And yet they share the same skeleton. I began with the left figure, used polygons to define the features, then mirrored the design and expressed it entirely in curves. Same underlying structure, different skin.

That's the proposition: underneath the sharp angles we present or the fluid curves we follow, we come from the same origin. The surface differs. The foundation doesn't.

Note: To see the art in its most static form, reference the first photo, which was shot to minimize environmental interference. The rest of the gallery explores the work’s ‘living surface’—the same piece, the same light, but different angles. Paired with the video, these views give you a true sense of how the sculpture lives and breathes within a room, shifting as you move around it.
